The origin of the BA-4B was the BA-4 Midget designed by Björn Andreasson and built in one example in 1944. It was made out of wood. The first engine was rated at 28 hp, but due to a too large propeller only gave 18 hp. Got a 40 hp engine in 1950.

Han kom då närmast ifrån Convair i USA och med sig hade han BA-7 N2806D (senare SE-COW) som han konstruerat och provflugit på fritiden. En modifierad version av BA-7 sattes i produktion i Malmö under beteckningen MFI-9 1963.
